We Are Homegrown
“We regret to inform you…” – the dreaded words that can devastate emerging filmmakers. However, the Homegrown Community offers a unique opportunity for new talent to showcase their underdog short films and receive constructive, tangible ways to work on their craft.
The Homegrown Showcase is a festival and a platform to Inspire and Connect filmmakers, providing them access to the tools to continue creating impactful works of art.
It started as a joke
As Guillermo sat at Stonyslope Brewery and shared a pint with friends, he laughed about how cool it would be to have screening nights for independent filmmakers at the homey brewery off Elbow Drive in Calgary. The friends he was having a drink with were the owners of the brewery, and as their eyes twinkled with inspiration, Guillermo stopped laughing and his wife realized that this would be his newest obsession.
Building a Homegrown Community
Utilizing his experience with longstanding film festivals, the Homegrown Short Film Showcase was intrinsically designed to be more than just a festival. By design, the festival wants to recognize the hard work that goes into making films and also showcase local art, food, and offerings to reach beyond the screen to the individuals watching from their seats.
